1, Sat Jul. 8: Depart Vancouver
We meet at Braithwaite Community Centre from where we are transfered
to the Vancouver airport, South Terminal for our flight to Masset,
Queen Charlotte, with Air Carrier Pacific Coastal Airlines. You
will be met by both the guide and the driver upon arrival at Masset
Municipal Airport and transferred to your accommodation in Masset,
10 minutes drive away.
Days Highlights: Orientation Tour
of Greater Masset, View Sandhill Cranes in the Delkatla Nature Sanctuary.
Visit with Haida Artisans, Totem poles in Old Massett.
Evening: This evening is free to wonder on own.
Overnight: Masset accommodation. Dinner.
Day 2, Sun Jul. 9: Tour of Naikoon Provincial Park.
We are picked up by driver and guide after breakfast at motel for
a short 30 minute drive to our destination for this day.
Days Highlights: Hiking up the dormant
volcanic plug of Tow Hill. Hunting for Agates, a semi-precious stone.
Beachcombing along sandy beaches.
Evening: we have a special guest speaker
talking about “Birds of Haida Gwaii”
Overnight: Masset accommodation. Breakfast, Bagged lunch, Dinner.
Day 3, Mon Jul. 10: Tour of Port Clements.
After breakfast we board our coach for another short, 45 minute
drive to our destination.
Days Highlights: Huge old growth trees, education on our forest
ecosystem, an Ancient Haida Canoe (partially carved and abandoned
in the forest), Golden Spruce Trail and Yakoun River. Good chance
to see Black bear as we drive logging roads for parts of the day.
Evening: Feeding Eagles - through our fishing contacts we will be
given fish heads to feed to our many Bald Eagles, an amazing site
to witness.
Overnight: Masset accommodation. Breakfast, Bagged lunch, Dinner.
Day 4, Tue Jul. 11: Tour of Tlell
After breakfast we enjoy one hour drive to Tlell.
Days Highlights: Tlell River, Small
local artisans, hike to the wreck of the “Pesuta”
Overnight: Queen Charlotte accommodation. Breakfast, Bagged Lunch
& Dinner
Day 5, Wed Jul. 11: Gwaii Haanas:
We have an early breakfast this morning. We board the local shuttle
to the Ferry terminal where we walk on the ferry to go across Skidegate
Inlet at Alliford Bay where we are met by Moreby Explorers for a
day tour by zodiac to Hotsprings Island and the Ancient Haida Village
of Tanu inside the Gwaii Haanas National Park Reseve and Haida Heritage
Site.
Days Highlights: Zodiac Tour to the
ancient Haida Village site of Tanu and Gandle’kim (Hotsprings
Island). We enjoy our dinner at a local bistro.
Overnight: Queen Charlotte accommodation. Breakfast, Bagged Lunch
& Dinner
Day 6, Thu Jul. 13: Tour Skidegate, travel north:
We wake up to another early breakfast today and a 90 minute drive
to our destination.
Days Highlights: Qay’ill’naagy
Heritage Centre, Haida Gwaii Museum. Bill Reid’s Dogfish Totem,
Balance Rock and Spirit Lakes Trail. Dinner tonight is at a local
Queen Charlotte Restaurant.
Overnight: Masset accommodation. Breakfast, Bagged Lunch & Dinner.
Day 7, Fri Jul. 14– Departure:
After breakfast we are transfered to airport in Masset to catch
our return flight to Vancouver.

Group transfer from Braithwaite Community Centre to Vancouver

Return Airfare from Vancouver to Masset .
Accommodation for 4 nights in Masset and 2 nights in Queen Charlotte.
All meals from lunch on Day 1 through break fast on Day 7.
Guides, all fees and gratuities , permits, and admissions to attractions.
Transportation and driver, including ferry costs.
Daylong Zodiac Boat Tour of northern Gwaii Haanas area.
Group transfer from Vancouver airport to Braithwaite Community Centre
on Day 7.
Pre or post extensions on the islands.
Any accommodation and meals not men tioned in itinerary.
Alcohol and any items of personal nature such as souvenirs, internet
etc.
Cancellation Insurance. Medical Insurance is suggested to non B.C.
residence.
While on the Islands you will be transported daily in our small touring
vehicle, a Ford F350 passenger van, which has been modified for your
comfort. We are fully licensed in accordance with the Provincial Passenger
Transportation Act, carry additional insurance, which is required
under this Act, and have our vehicle certified by a government mechanic
every 6 months. Our drivers hold upgraded licenses issued by the Province
of BC and background checks are conducted on the past records of all
our drivers.
Reservations & Bookings: We accept cheque, money order and major
credit cards. A trip information package will be given to all participants
once full payment is received.Please note our Cancellation Policy
and Assumption of Risk statement.
A full refund minus $200.00 Cad. administration fee per person for
cancellation prior to April 10, 2006. After April 10, all payments
are 100% non refundable. We recommend purchase of trip cancellation
insurance to protect your investment in case of unforeseen health
issues or death in the family.
We require that participants in our tours acknowledge that there are
risks associated with their tour and that they accept responsibility
for engaging in activities that may involve hazards, including, but
not limited to, transfers in and out of, and travel in, Zodiac inflatable
boats, hiking, swimming, vehicle travel and other activities. We require
that participants acknowledge that the owners and personnel of Bestway
Tours & Safaris and Northwest Recreation Services will not be
responsible for any damages, injuries, death, losses, delays, or expenses,
whether to person or to property, due to any cause. In order to confirm
registration a signed liability release will be required of every
participant as is standard in our industry. This being said, we are
a professional company, fully licensed and insured and will always
put your safety first as our main concern.
If you decide to take a fishing charter while on the island, we can
make arrangements on your behalf prior to arrival in Masset. The Salmon
and Halibut fishing is excellent. Full day tours run between $500
to $1,200 (per group of 4) per day. For an additional charge your
catch can be prepared, packed and shipped to your home door.
This tour is not suitable for those who require the use of walking
aids or those who cannot walk safely for more than a kilometre on
uneven ground. Participants must be able to get in and out of the
Zodiac.
